Campbell Stew : What's new in the Stew?

This evening Sydney was finger painting at the kitchen table while I was cooking dinner.  Ok, get your breathe back from that statement, yes I cook dinner... Not well, but I do the best I can.

We were quickly reminded of how smart little kids were and how much they really do pay attention.  Ali asked her what she was painting and Sydney replied, "A Lizzard".  With all animals and toys Sydney gives them names she makes up from that crazy little mind of hers.  For example, yesterday she painted an 8 legged purple pig named Lyla the Segorgia.  If you ask her at any time she will remember the exact name and pronunciation of Lyla the Segorgia.

Anyways, you have the Lizard part, now time for the Apple and the Tree.  They say the Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.  In this case it is a stretch but it made for a snappy title so I worked it in.  If you know me well enough you know my political views since well, lets be honet now, I don't know how to shutup.  Apparently Sydney shares my political views.

So long story short, Ali asked Sydney what the name of the Lizard she just painted was.  Sydney replied without hesitation "A Rock Obama".  Of course this stopped us both in our tracks.  We obviously asked her to repeat herself and she again stated "A Rock Obama".

Ali proceeded to ask Sydney "Did you just say Barack Obama"?  To which Sydney replied, and I quote... "Um Yes, A Rock Obama, of the people.  The President".

Wow.  I can't top that.  Now you have the Apple, The Tree, The Lizard and A Rock Obama.

It doesn't get much more cute than this!  Such a strapping young man!

Christmas 2008 brought oodles and oodles of Joy to the Campbell house.  To start, Mommy and Daddy got to sleep in until 6:30 am!  Sawyer woke up first with a smile as usual and Sydney was apparently awake already but just waiting to hear someone else awake.  As soon as Daddy turned on the "toons" for Sawyer, we heard Sydney squishing around upstairs.  So Sawyer and I did what any red-blooded man would do... We went and got her out of bed and promptly sent her to jump on Mommy to wake her up!!!!!  Hey, it's Chriustmas!

Oh, the excitement was everywhere in her big blue eyes.  She kept asking if Santa came and if Toodles told him everything she asked him too.  (Toodles is Santa's elf that is stationed at our house to watch and report back to Santa every night.)  Sydney remembered however to wish Baby Jesus a Happy Birthday before going into the room to dive into her presents.  Mommy and Daddy are very proud.

Syd was very patient for a 3.8 year old and was very happy to open Sawyer's presents for him.  Sawyer was more intent on playing with the wrapping paper, that is until the sky opened up and provided him with a 3 foot tall ELMO!!!!  Oh boy, that kid won't put Elmo down now!  We then had a Tea Party with Sydney, Elmo and Sawyer at the kitchen table.  Actually Sawyer wasn't invited by his big sister but he saw fit to act like Swiper and steal the tea cups every chance he got.  Syd was a champ however and she thought he was funny.

Mr Jake and Mrs Amy came over for dinner and they brought Eli.  And as Sydney says, where there is Eli, there is CAKE!  The kids had a great time playing and the grown ups had a great time as well.

Off to work again on the 26th but it is ok because this Christmas was the best one yet, until next year!

'Twas the night before the Super Bowl, when along the gulf shore,
Steelers fans were praying for "just one more;"
The players were nestled all snug in the sack,
With visions of the first NFL Six-Pack;
Coach Tomlin was young, but wise for his years,
So I drifted off to sleep without any fears;
When at the stadium there arose some strange chatter,
The Cardinals feared, what was the matter;
We heard "Okel Dokel", we heard "Double Yoi,"
We jumped from our beds, our hearts jumped for joy;
He stood at the fifty with a grin ear to ear,
Steelers fans everywhere started to cheer;
Then in an instant to our surprise,
This little old man had tears in his eyes;
He went to the booth and there took his chair,
While Terrible Towels waved in the air;
Then over the airwaves came his shrill voice,
The Steelers Nation began to rejoice;
He said, "I am back, but you know I can't stay,
I just had to see my Steelers play;
From my home up above, I have a great view,
But I wanted to celebrate here with you;
So bring on the Birds, we'll send them a flyin',
On the way back to Phoenix, they will be cryin';
Ben, Hines, Troy, Jeff and all of the rest,
No matter the outcome, to me you're the best;"
The airwaves went silent, the stadium still,
Was this just a dream, it seemed so real;
In our team we have faith, in our team we have hope,
But the game's not the same without Myron Cope;

Shoes and Ears... Who would have thought they would be so much fun!  Not me... initially.

Shoes are the leather or canvas things that I put on each morning right after my socks.  Yes I put pants on first, but I am honored that you know me well enough to think that first!  I usually don't think about my shoes again until I go to the gym and need to change them and again when I get ready to go to bed.  It bothers Alicia that I wear my shoes all the time, especially right after the carpets have been vacuumed but what can I say, I hate being without shoes.

I take good care of my shoes and Alicia will tell you all that I am the Imelda Marcos of men.  If I had it my way, I would have a different pair of shoes for each day of the month.  So get to the point already John!  Shoes are awesome to me, but apparently to Sawyer they are even more of a blast.  He loves to take them on and off, wear big shoes on top of his shoes, eat shoes, lick the bottoms of shoes, throw shoes and put shoes on his hands.  If you are around Sawyer, make sure your shoes are hidden away somewhere or on your feet because if they aren't he will stake claim to them like Columbus took claim to the Indian's land way back when.  He just loves them so much, they are FUN!

OK, so I mentioned ears too...  It isn't that ears are FUN to Sawyer, it is that Daddies ears are just not big enough apparently.  I thought they were plently big myself but Sawyer disagrees.  He opposes my feelings on my ears so much that he is attempting to strech them out like those wierd people in Nat Geo documentaries that spread their lips or earlobes with bigger and bigger earings, or lip rings.  He likes to pull on my ears only and he can't go to sleep without doing so.

The moral of the ears story is this... Please don't make fun of my growing ears when you see me as it is not my choice. But I think it is so cute that I am willing to deal with freakishly large ears and cuts from little fingernails all over them because it makes him soooooo happy!

Oh how those little things that first irritate us become the things we love so much!
